Bad night for Club and Steels

Have your say

SHEFFIELD FC’s hopes of extending their lead at the top of Evo-Stik Division One South were dashed with a 3-2 home defeat against Lincoln United.

The visitors took the lead in their first attack through George Zuerner on five minutes. Club levelled with a deflected Andy Gascoigne shot. Jonah Gosling and Jamie Hadfield both went close to giving Sheffield the lead. However, they found themselves behind once more on 51 minutes when Shaun Wright converted from close range.

Lincoln went further in front on 72 minutes, Tom Garrick heading in from a corner. Ashley Longstaff set up a grandstand finish when he tapped in after the keeper had parried with 10 minutes left and only the crossbar prevented Dan Williams earning Club a point.

Stocksbridge Park Steels went out of the FA Trophy beaten 3-2 in their replay at Ossett Town

Andy Ring should have given Steels an early lead but shot straight at the keeper. They were made to pay when Ossett took a 15th minute lead through a Danny Clapham free-kick following a foul by Brett Lovell.

Ring made amends for his earlier miss with the equaliser, cutting inside and finding the bottom corner from seven-yards after being picked out by a fine pass from Anthony Tansley.

But Ossett regained the lead just before the interval when Ben Scott was left stranded by a Lee Garside lob from the edge of the box. Ossett went further ahead after the break, Clapham curling in another free-kick. Stocksbridge pulled one back on 68 minutes when Richard Stirrup tapped in a Mark Ward pass but Ossett hung on.

In the Baris NCEL Division One Worsbrough Bridge Athletic won 4-3 at Hemsworth with goals from Conrad Baranyai, Shane Kelsey and a Teo Ringrose double, while Rossington Main and AFC Emley drew 0-0.
