Non-league review: No action for Sheffield FC, Stocksbridge, Handsworth or Hallam as winter starts to bite

The BetVictor South East Division did see just four games postponed, but unfortunately two of those involved the Sheffield clubs with Sheffield FC’s home clash with Chasetown and Stocksbridge Park Steels trip to Market Drayton Town both early casualties.

The Toolstation NCEL didn’t fare so well however, with just eight matches over the two divisions completed.

There was more frustration for Hallam, who have been one of the worse teams affected by games being called off, after their Division One clash with Rossington Main was postponed due to a frozen and frost-covered Sandygate Road pitch.

It was the Countrymen’s sixth game in the last seven in league and cup affairs to be lost to the weather with Steve Whitehead's men having not kicked a ball in anger since the 5-2 reversal at Campion on November 9.

Meanwhile, Hallam’s third round Senior Cup tie against Swinton Athletic has been rearranged for this coming Tuesday (7.45pm) at Sandygate Road where the winners will face a trip to either Frickley Athletic or Stocksbridge Park Steels in the quarter-finals.

Handsworth also saw their game away at Garforth Town called off with the pitch frozen.

Amongst the games that did go ahead, Penistone Church made it four wins on spin beating Knaresborough Town 3-1 away to go four-points clear at the top of the Premier Division.

“It was a really good performance. Knaresborough is a very difficult place to come to and get a result,” said Penistone boss Ian Richards.

Maltby Main returned to winning ways beating Garforth Town 4-2 away whilst Dronfield Town slipped to a 2-1 loss at Armthorpe.
