National League play-off teams boosted by latest Football Association decision

The Football Association has agreed to extend the National League season - providing a boost for the clubs in the play-offs.

The National League asked for the campaign to be extended beyond May and the FA Council has approved the request.

However, this does not mean that the play-offs will definitely take place but it is another stumbling block out of the way.

The National League is currently waiting to find out whether promotions and relegations will take place in the EFL’s three divisions before deciding the outcomes of its own season.

If, as expected, that relegations do take place, then that would give the green light for National League play-off matches to go ahead.

But if relegations are scrapped then that would put promotion via the National League play-offs in doubt although league leaders Barrow could still go up to replace Bury who folded at the start of the season.
