National League chairman has this message for all clubs about season vote

His message comes after at least two clubs have raised concerns about the process.

“Can I remind all member clubs that it is a National League board proposed resolution and, therefore, the course of action that I would seek from all clubs is that, in due course and when ready, they vote in what is intended to be an inclusive and democratic process,” Mr Barwick said.

Mr Barwick also said they, like many other leagues and sports, were in “unchartered waters” and are “trying to unravel any major issues in the best and fairest way possible.”

He added: “Whilst I fully appreciate these are emotional times, in both our country’s daily life, and in the game we love, can I ask everybody to try to remain as objective as possible, and ultimately vote in whatever way your club sees fit for the greater well-being and welfare of the 68 member clubs who populate our great league.”

Clubs have until May 7 to vote whether or not all remaining fixtures should be cancelled.

If clubs vote to end the season now then a second vote will be held to determine the outcomes of the season.

Chesterfield have voted for an immediate end to the campaign.

Yeovil Town and Notts County, who are both in the play-offs, have questioned whether the vote should be taking place.

Yeovil chairman, Scott Priestnall, said they don’t want to vote at all because they don’t know what the ramifications might be.

He added: “Are we then going to vote on promotion, relegation and play-offs? - it’s mooted that’s a possibility. Are we going to retain the existing places that we have got? There’s so many things that are unanswered in this current situation.

“I think it should be left to the FA and the National League to decide what they think should happen. I don’t think it should come down to club level because simply clubs are going to vote for what is right for them.”
