MK Dons 2 Rotherham United 3: Marvellous Millers roar back for memorable win

Some wins are just better than others.

The ones when you are 2-0 down at half-time and getting outplayed by a team who had lost their last six games only to come back and win 3-2 in the final 10 minutes must be up there with the best.

The Millers made hard work of it at MK Dons, but they are finding different ways to win at the moment and an eighth win from 11 games – inspired by Freddie Ladapo's double - has sent them into the top four of League One.

This one had no chance of being a win after 45 minutes as in Russell Martin's first home game in charge, it was the Dons that made Rotherham look like relegation fodder.

They took an early lead when Bailly Cargill slotted Alex Gilbey through on goal, before the midfielder found a way past Millers goalkeeper Daniel Iversen at the near post.

The Danish stopper has been brilliant for this season, but that is one moment he will want to forget.

Martin’s side doubled their lead when Joe Mason’s unstoppable strike found the net.

Warne had seen enough and hauled off Matt Crooks and Michael Smith at half-time with Ladapo and Kyle Vassell coming on.

It proved a vital intervention as the Millers produced a storming comeback.

They halved the deficit when Cargill, who was later sent off, dithered in the box and allowed Barlaser to tap home after 66 minutes and they levelled moments later when Vassell’s free-kick was tapped home by Ladapo.

This was the Ladapo show and he could have had a second two minutes later after he was fouled in the box, but he smashed his penalty into the crossbar.

The Millers' record signing was not to be denied the headlines, though, and he nodded the winner in the 86th minute.

Warne said: “It was obviously a lot better in the second half. We started the game very poorly and we didn’t really recognise ourselves to be honest.

“I’d like to thank the fans for staying with us because they got behind us massively - I thought we were going to get booed off at half-time but we managed to finish off with a bit of momentum.

“I can accept losing games if we play the way we want to play, but in the first half it was nothing like us - we made some changes and I thought the players that came on had a really positive impact.”
