Meadowhall League: Stocksbridge Yellows seal hard-earned win over Hallam Wisewood Red

For the third weekend in a row the wet weather had an impact on the fixtures, with all U21 Division fixtures washed off.

There were however some significant games that did get the go ahead in the U18 Divisions.

Stocksbridge Park Steels Yellow continued their run of good form climbing up to third in Division One and level on points with Stocksbridge Blue after making it three wins on the spin with a hard-earned 2-1 home victory over Hallam Wisewood Red.

Cameron Ronksley fired Stocksbridge into and early lead and although Hallam hit back to level through Billy Wilson, the home side regained the lead before the break when Brandon Whitefield found the net, and that’s how it stayed despite the visitors' late pressure.

Penistone Church came out on top in the battle of the bottom two easing to a 4-1 win at Retford Blue to end a run of four defeats on the spin.

Penistone held a slender 1-0 lead at the interval courtesy of a Rowan Briscoe strike before stepping up a gear after the break with goals from Luke Daly, Jack Roberts and Adam Taylor.

Hallam Wisewood Black made the most of the Division Two leaders not playing by beating Handsworth FC 3-2 away to stretch their unbeaten run to seven and go top of the table - a point clear of Sheffield FC Red whose game was postponed.

Swallownest Blue eased to a 5-1 win at bottom side Dronfield Town thus condemning the hosts to a sixth defeat on the trot.

Frazer Allerton and Devonte Higgins goals had seen the visitors holding a slender 2-1 lead with replying through Connor Golus to give the home side hope of ending their losing streak.

That was until Swallownest sub Josiah Robinson came off the bench to score a hat-trick to put the result beyond the home side.

Sheffield United Junior Blades have opened up a nine-point gap at the top of Division Three following a rousing 7-1 home win over Worksop Town.

Jacob Furness, Jame Lindores and Eddie Reed goals had United 3-0 up at the interval. Reed went on to complete his hat-trick in the second half and although Worksop got one back through Nathan Randle, the hosts had the last word with further goals from subs Ty Brookes and Charlie Hirst.

The only game in Division Four saw Staveley MW move out of the bottom two by easing to a 5-0 win at Mosborough.

Newbold Community held onto their four point lead at the top of Division Five with a 4-1 win over Greasbororugh Youth.

Second-placed Swinton Athletic Spartans kept the pressure on with a narrow 1-0 win at Brinsworth Whitehill.

After winning the last two outings rather comfortably, Staincross Rangers suffered something of a surprise home defeat with a 8-4 reversal against Nether Green Black.
