Meadowhall League: Spartans throw spanner in the works as they seal win over high-fliers Brunsmeer

In the race for the Meadowhall League U21 Division title, Swinton Spartan Athletic threw a spanner in the works following a 3-1 win at second-placed Brunsmeer Athletic.

That saw the hosts beaten for the first time in six.

The sides had gone in level at 1-1 at the break but second half goals from Ellis Hancock and Travis Grierson lifted Swinton up to eighth.

Brunsmeer’s slip allowed leaders Jubilee Rangers to stretch their lead at the top to eight points following an emphatic 13-0 win at bottom side Beighton Falcons.

Improving Mosborough continued their climb up the table after making it three wins on the spin, beating Brinsworth Whitehill 4-1.

Ben Longden proved a handful for the Brinsworth defence plundering a hat-trick, and although the visitors got one back through Josh Curtis it proved no more than a consolation as sub Callum Wood added a fourth.

Woodman Juniors kept their outside title hopes alive with a comprehensive 9-2 win at lowly Swallownest Juniors.

The only game in the U18 Division One saw ten-man Hallam Wisewood Red edge to a narrow 1-0 victory over Phoenix Youth to maintain their unbeaten home record.

Liam Hill-Simmons hit the decisive goal as Hallam made it back-to-back victories. The only blot on their copybook was the dismissal of of substitute Jake Baldwin.

Wickersley Youth - second in the table- narrowed the gap to five points on the U18 Division Three leaders Sheffield Utd JB after easing to a 3-0 win against Staveley MW White.

Jack Daniels, sub Adam Whitfield and Max Weldon all netted as Wickersley stretched their run to just one defeat in nine.

Killamarsh Dynamos made it five without defeat after beating Hallam Rangers 3-1, whilst Wath Stars and and Redmires Rangers drew 3-3.

AFC Dronfield Black made the most of Division Four leaders Greasborough Youth not being in action to go top of the table with a 4-2 victory at Nether Green Grey.

Newbold Community have opened up a seven-point lead at the top of Division Five with a comfortable 7-0 away success at Nether Green Black.

Second-placed Swinton Athletic Spartans saw their championship hopes take a knock with a 4-3 home defeat against mid-table Greasborough Youth despite the best efforts of Reece Banks and Josh Hill (2).
