Meadowhall League: Early festive cheer as Swallownest romp to eight-goal win

In the last round of matches in the Meadowhall League before the festive break, Swallownest Juniors climbed off the bottom of the U21 Division.

They did so in emphatic style thanks to a resounding 8-0 home win over fellow strugglers Steel City Dons.

Connor Kiddy led the rout with a well taken hat-trick with Kaleem Hussian, George Appleby, Sam Lindley and Theo Sparkes also getting in on the scoring act with Lewis Westwood coming off the bench to complete scoring.

Jubilee Rangers maintained their five-point cushion at the top, easing to a 5-1 win at Parkgate, while second-paced Brunsmeer Athletic kept the pressure on with a comfortable 6-1 home success over Woodman Juniors.

Title-chasing Thurcroft MI suffered a surprise defeat going down 3-2 at lowly Mosborough.

Thurcroft’s defeat meant Dearne & District climbed above them to go third following a 5-3 away win at improving Brinsworth Whitehill. Brooklyn Whitmill will feel bitterly disappointed to have finished on the losing side after his treble had looked like earning a point.

There was just one game in the U18 Division One, which proved significant as in-form Stocksbridge Park Steels Yellow moved three-points clear at the top ahead of inter-club rivals Stocksbridge Blue following a thumping 7-0 home win against Phoenix Youth.

Samuel Clarke led the Steels frontline superbly, notching a hat-trick while Kieran Owusu, Brandon Whitfield, Elthan Whitfield and Luca Defalco all got in on the act too.

Division Two leaders Sheffield FC Red were held to a 1-1 draw by Hallam Wisewood Black.

Handsworth climbed three-places to second after a hard-earned 4-3 away triumph over bottom side Swallownest Blue.

Brunsmeer Athletic AFC narrowed the gap to ten-points with two games in hand after goals from Louis Naylor and Reece Broadbent sealed a 2-0 home win over Swallownest White.
