“It helps that we’re both quick. If he’s doing a lot of running in behind and needs a wee break then I’ll do it for him.

“We seemed to click quite quickly so it’s good. Sometimes it can take a bit of time but Gboly works so hard and made it easier.

“He headed one back to the keeper at the weekend, which I don’t want him doing too often, but it shows how hard he works.”

The defender made a summer move to the Proact Stadium from Dundee and is settling in to life south of the border with his new club.

“I’m enjoying it,” he said. “I was in Scotland for quite a while in a small league that got a bit stale, playing teams four times.

“This is exciting. New teams and new grounds. There was only two I missed in Scotland. One of them was the team my brother plays for, Hibs, funnily enough.

“So down here I’m hoping to get to as many stadiums as I can.”

McGinn and his Chesterfield team-mates will be hopeful of carrying on their unbeaten league start to the season away at Shrewsbury Town on Saturday.

He said: “We’d have taken that at the start. The first three games, especially. It’s good to get that great start and take the pressure off.”
