Chesterfield rode their luck for over an hour but they succumbed to a 68th minute goal from the impressive Danny Mayor.
Ironically Mayor had been quietened down by a formation switch after he and fellow winger Joe Dodoo had given Chesterfield’s defenders plenty to think about on the sodden pitch that deteriorated minute by minute as we had 90 minutes of a non stop deluge.
But Chesterfield were eventually beaten as their poor run of league form continue.
