The move sees Crossley join up with former Spireites manager John Sheridan, who was appointed by Notts County on Friday afternoon.

Chesterfield chief executive Chris Turner spoke about the move: “It all came out of the blue really, Notts County asked to speak to Mark on Thursday and the pull of a role as assistant manager was too strong fos us to be able to stand in the way.

“Mark has been a great professional during his most recent stint at the club, we thank him for his efforts and we wish him well with his ongoing career.

“Danny Wilson is now looking at his options with regards to appointing a new goalkeeping coach and we will have the right man in place before the new season.”
