Local Football: Stocksbridge set to save themselves

Have your say

It has been a difficult season but Stocksbridge Park Steels can earn themselves a little celebration tonight.

They have the opportunity to confirm their safety from relegation when they entertain Nantwich Town in the Premier Division of the Evo-Stik League.

Saturday’s win over second-bottom Kendal Town was a pivotal result because it put them nine points clear of the Cumbrians and both have only four games to play.

So, manager Darren Schofield sends his side out at the Bracken Moor tonight knowing a win will guarantee they are safe whilst even a draw would then require Kendal to win all their four remaining games.

Even if Stocksbridge falter, defeat for Kendal at Matlock would be enough so vastly superior is the Stocksbridge goal difference - they are 16 goals better off.

Stocksbridge are also in action again on Thursday at home to AFC Fylde.

Sheffield FC also play tonight when they face Newcastle Town in the Evo-Stik Division One South at Dronfield.

In the N.East Counties League, Parkgate are at Arnold Town and Worksop Paramore go to Nostell MW.
