Sheffield FC Ladies fell to a 6-0 defeat away to Liverpool Ladies in Group One North in the FA Women’s Continental Tyres Cup in Widnes.
Liverpool took the lead on nine minutes when Caroline Weir was played in by a superb Alex Greenwood pass and she stayed composed to slot the ball past the onrushing Danielle Gibbons and into the net.
Greenwood could have doubled the home side’s lead on 16 minutes. Her freekick from 30 yards out beat Gibbons but she was denied as the ball struck the post before bouncing away to safety.
Weir was to double her goal tally on 29 minutes, though, hitting a powerful strike that slipped out of Gibbons’ hands and into the net.
Sheffield were inches away from pulling a goal back on 32 minutes as Liverpool failed to clear a low Ellie Gilliatt cross and the ball fell to Rhema Lord-Mears before her effort was well saved by Siobhan
The home side were denied a third on 37 minutes when Bethany England weaved her way around the Sheffield defence before her effort was tipped over by Gibbons.
Liverpool started the second half on top and they added a third on 52 minutes. Greenwood fizzed in a low cross that was turned into her own net by Gilliatt as she stuck out a loose leg attempting to clear the
ball away from the lurking Jess Clarke at the back post.
Sophie Ingle was then to grab a fourth goal on 65 minutes as she volleyed in a Weir cross at the back post after a short corner.
Liverpool got their fifth when Ali Johnson was played in on goal by England and she slotted into the net with ease.
Five was then to become six as England met a long pass and she fired the ball into the net from close range.
