There were limbs everywhere.

When Michael Ihiekwe climbed highest to nod home an injury-time winner and give Rotherham a 1-0 opening day win at Wycombe, there were limbs – the modern-day buzzword for manic celebrations by fans.

They weren't in the away end at Adams Park, though, they were on the sofa in Kimberworth, in the garden in Thurcroft or in the man shed in Bramley.

The fans were not able to there in person, they were forced to watch on a streaming device 150 miles away, but they celebrated just their club's second Championship away win in 49 attempts just as much.

Some fans were even charged twice because of a glitch on the club's website. Those that were won't be complaining now.

The central defender met Joe Mattock's corner in the second minute of four added on to also give the Millers a first win on the opening day of a Championship season since they beat Millwall 6-0 in 2002.

Some things are worth waiting for and boy was it hard work waiting for Ihiekwe's golden moment.

The preceding 92 minutes were drab, with very little to choose between two sides who were battling it out at the top end of League One last season.

It was bitty and disrupted, not helped by the referee being too whistle-happy.

Wycombe had the best of the first half, somehow failing to go in front as Daryl Horgan shot over from close range and Darius Charles hitting the post.

Rotherham were much better after the break, though rarely looked like scoring until Ihiekwe did the business at the death.

But a win is a win, it was important the Millers began their season with a positive result and to post an away victory so early is another big step.

“I’m pleased to get off to a win,” said boss Paul Warne. “It was a really competitive game with both teams going for it.

“We were both the best teams for set-pieces last year, so it wasn’t a massive surprise one of us won it with a set-piece. It could have been Wycombe, it could have been us.

“I thought second half we were a little bit in the ascendency. The highlight is going in the dressing room afterwards and all the lads are buzzing. There were some good performances but we’re going to need to get better to win more games.”

“Sometimes you get your just rewards and sometimes you don’t, and luckily this week we were on the right end.”
