Liddle: We'll learn and move on from Walsall defeat

Liddle, who was influential in the first half, could only watch in despair as the Saddlers took complete control following Dion Donohue’s second half red card.

Giving his take on the sending off that took the game out of the Spireites’ hands, he said: “It’s disappointing the way it’s come about.

“They’ve scored and we’ve been hit by a bit of a double whammy, with the sending off as well.

“Sam (Hird) was disappointed that the goal’s gone in, he’s just tried to get back to the halfway line and found himself in a rugby scrum.

“I think he was off the floor at once stage.

“For a team to celebrate with opposition players in and around it is a bit disappointing.

“It’s resulted in a sending off for Dion as well and made it very difficult for us for the remaining time in the game.”

Having their five-game unbeaten streak halted in such emphatic fashion is disappointing, Liddle admitted, but their thoughts will very quickly turn to Scunthorpe next Saturday.

“We’ve got a young team. I’m one of the eldest and I’m only 29,” he said.

“It’s a learning curve for everyone. This result will be forgotten about pretty quickly.

“We’ve got 11 points from the last five games, which is a good return. We’ll learn a lot more from today than we have from those five games. You get to see your characters and those who want to do well.

“It’s a big learning curve and we’ll put it behind us pretty quickly.”
