Let's spend more time together, Caldwell tells fans

The Town boss was one of the panel for a season ticket holder question and answer event last week.

He was joined by club chairman Mike Warner, director Ashley Carson, first team coach Steve Eyre and head of recruitment and development Guy Branston.

Although there were some frank exchanges of views and tough questions asked of the panel, including Caldwell, the Scot said it was a good experience and one that should be repeated.

Caldwell came in for scrutiny due to his managerial record since arriving at the club – the Spireites having won just two of his 18 games in charge as they slumped to an already confirmed relegation.

He believes the fans have a crucial part to play in turning the League Two bound club around.

“I think we should do more of them so the fans can see our pain and how much it hurts us as well,” he said.

“I still believe that we need positivity, they still have to come back next year in a positive frame of mind.

“If they don’t, success won’t come for this club, for me, for any players that come here, they have to get behind the team.”

The former Wigan manager is also hoping that time will be a healer: “I understand the frustration but hopefully the summer can clear their minds of that and they can come back next year in a positive frame of mind.”

Chesterfield are hopeful that the first of Caldwell’s new signings will be confirmed over the coming week and that some positive news will invigorate 2017/18 season ticket sales, which to date have been poor.
