Teenage debutant Osaze Urhoghide has done well at right-back while Cameron Dawson has pulled off a couple of key saves to thwart Gaëtan Bong and Neal Maupay, while at the other end Owls skipper Steven Fletcher was denied by a superb stop from David Button on the stroke of half time.

Our Wednesday reporter Dom Howson says it has been a ‘very promising showing from the Owls. They have defended resolutely (Iorfa has been top-drawer again at CB) and had their moments going forwards.”

And here’s what some Owls fans have had to say about the first half on Twitter.

@nicstorr Nice having Fletcher back. Iorfa/Borner is the pair we need at the back. Murphy, no real need for him. Dawson solid. All in all, decent play from Wednesday. #SWFC

@__JBH___ Not surprised we look better against Premiership opposition. Also with three central midfielders too but then you sacrifice two up front. We don’t miss Hutchinson one bit in midfield #swfc

@RocketOwl1986 Fletcher showed more fight and heart in that first half up against some tough defenders on his own then Rhodes, Winnall and Nuhui would have put together. Absolute warrior Fletcher is and we are lucky to have him #swfc

@ConcedingYT Most ready-salted performance I've seen in a while. Both teams look bang average. Fletcher needs some support. Young lads been okay though. #SWFC

@Bradders23Tim Solid enough in defence, young lad has been ok, Jesus though we are creating next to nothing #swfc

@DestructionLuxe Urhoghide is taking his opportunity. Their their most dangerous looking player Maupay unlucky to find himself being marked by Big Dom today. Better Wednesday. #swfc

@JimTankard Much better performance today. Good shape and much better quality on the ball.

@ocswfc People complaining about the lineup before kick off, solid side and looking like we can nick something

@_ae19_ VERY happy with that first half, that lad at right back looks quality! Exactly what I meant with bringing youth in, he looks brilliant
