Chesterfield ended a woeful run of eight straight defeats in midweek at MK Dons to cut the gap to safety to four points.

And Dennis, who hit his sixth goal of the season in the 3-2 win, knows that Danny Wilson’s men must use that victory as a platform to climb the table.

“It’s been a long time since we got a win so it was great to get one at MK Dons,” he said.

“All the players were buzzing at the end,” he said. “We have not been downbeat about the poor run or lost confidence and we hope the MK Dons win is a turning point.

“We have been on a terrible run and hopefully this will kickstart us to go on a run of games.

“Bristol Rovers are coming here downbeat, knowing we got our first win in a while, hopefully they will be coming here with a bit of fear.

“We want to get out of the bottom four as soon as possible and that will give us a big boost.

“We have to kick on and start a winning run. Hopefully the fans will turn up in big numbers on Saturday and we can send them away smiling.”

And Dennis says he is loving the day to day life of being a professional football after battling his way out of non league.

He added: “It’s been a tough step up from the non league. We are training every day, which didn’t happen in non league.

“It has helped develop my game. Every day you are improving. There is a lot of expereience in the squad who have given me pointers that have helped.

“When I was released by Macclesfield aged 20, I spent six years just playing non league and enjoying scoring goals. It’s nice to be back in the Football League.”
