Chesterfield have increased the heat on their National League relegation rivals by winning four and drawing one of their last six games under boss John Pemberton.

Town are still in the drop zone but they are within touching distance of six teams and only three points behind Sutton United in 15th.

The Spireites caretaker boss is confident his players can handle the situation but what about the teams just above them?

"I think the big thing now is that we are dragging people in,” Pemberton said.

"I think six weeks ago they probably thought we were dead and buried.

"A lot of the teams that were in that middle zone were probably out of it but the results that people are picking up now - certainly we are one of them - is dragging everybody into it.

"I know there is nothing worse when you are in that position where you think you are not in a relegation zone to all of a sudden being in it there is a totally different mindset to those teams and those players.”

However, Pemberton did admit that mentally it is “quite tough” to take that they are still in the relegation zone considering their upturn in results but said they are in a “good place.”

On still being in the bottom four Pemberton added: “It is not about blanking it out but trying to put it to one side.

"We have had to win four games to get anywhere near getting out.

"It is nice if you win a game and climb the table. We have won four games now but we just have not climbed the table.

"Mentally that is quite tough but the players are in a good place at the moment.

"They are playing with freedom and they are playing with enthusiasm which I like to see.

“I think they are enjoying doing what they are doing at the moment which is good for us."

Meanwhile, Chesterfield’s away game at Yeovil Town has been rescheduled for Tuesday, March 24.
