“I do not want to get too carried away but it is a big step to getting out of it (the relegation fight),” Pemberton said of the win against Chorley.

“We have just got out of it, but we don’t want to be going back in it.

“The relief of having a Saturday where we are out of the bottom four - we have not been out of it for God knows how long - our goal was that and then we take it from there.

“I am not going to be off them - we will recover properly and then we will be cracking the whip again and getting us going.

“They are all scrapping and having a go and you can see that they are fighting for their lives.”

Goals from Tom Denton and Jordan Cropper sealed all points for Chesterfield at Victory Park last weekend despite Connor Hall pulling one back for the hosts.

The win moved Pemberton’s side out of the drop zone for the first time since November 26 when they were thrashed 5-1 by Hartlepool United at the Proact under previous boss John Sheridan.

The Spireites will have to check on goalkeeper Shwan Jalal ahead of the 460-mile round trip to the Crabble Stadium on Saturday. The stopper was forced off at half-time against Chorley and was replaced by debutant Ross Fitzsimons.

Youngster Regan Hutchinson will also have to be assessed after missing out against Chorley through illness.

Andy Hessenthaler’s Dover have lost their last two while Chesterfield continue to go from strength-to-strength under Pemberton.

“In the games we have had - five wins, one draw and two losses - is a brilliant return from where we were eight or nine weeks ago,” Pemberton added.
