Jeeves wins the day as Adwick set pace

ADWICK-le-Street continue to set the pace at the top of the Solly Sports Doncaster and District Cricket League Section A table after beating second-placed Darfield by seven wickets.

Adwick won the toss and put Darfield into bat – a decision which paid dividends as a 5-16 haul by Chris Jeeves helped skittle them all out for 88. Junior Declan Muldowney hit three fours and a six in a top-score 21 in Adwick's reply.

Bawtry held on to third spot after beating Sykehouse by 13 runs. Opener Richard Miller top-scored with 45 – a knock which included six fours – in Bawtry's 176-9. Gavin Langford (31), Glyn Brown (31) and junior Thomas Prebble (32) also made useful knocks.

Mick Gallagher, whose top-score 50 featured two sixes and six fours, was the mainstay of the Sykehouse reply of 163 all out. Lee Brooks took 5-77 and Felix Odell (3-11).

Brodsworth Main collected a three-wicket win over Barnsley.

Replying to Barnsley's 184-9, junior Joseph Horrocks taking 3-32, Main made 185-7 in 43 overs with opener Matt Dainty (37) and junior Joseph Horrocks (29 not out) leading the way.

Fourth-placed Grimethorpe beat Wentworth by 119 runs. Wath registered a 108-run win over Whiston Meths.

Bullcroft Main banked 22 points without a ball being bowled when Swinton failed to raise a side.

Hatfield Town took over top spot in Section B when beating leaders Fenwick by nine wickets.

Fenwick elected to bat after winning the toss but were skittled out for just 91, with only Michael Burke (30) making much impression on the Town attack well led by Neil Palmer (3-36) and Jeff Dinsdale (4-25).

Opener Mick Gallagher (3-26) and skipper Paul Davies (35 not out) steered Town to 94-1 in less than 19 overs.

Pegler (127) lost ground in the title race after suffering a 26-run defeat at Brookhouse.

Acting Hampole and Skelbrooke skipper Stuart Stubbins (6-37) finished off the Harworth innings of 120 all out with a 5-0 haul. Opener Dougie Hinton (23), Andy Dickinson (24) and Shay Dunning (38) had earlier contributed the bulk of the Harworth runs.

No 4 Alan Clark (53 not out) and Stubbins (36 not out), who came together rescued the game for Hampole (126-5). Jeff Dickinson (3-38) starred for Harworth with the ball.

Bawtry, for whom Osbourne hit a top-score 51 in their 183-7, enjoyed the better of a drawn game against visiting Parklands who were 123-7 in reply with Parker, who had earlier taken 5-43, top-scoring with 50.

Kilnhurst closed the gap on Section C leaders Thurnscoe after beating them by five wickets.

Finningley and Blaxton held on to third place after beating Adwick-on-Dearne by 107 runs.

Batting first after winning the toss, Finningley made 207-9 with No 4 Matthew Turner, who hit 15 fours, being bowled by Harry Boone (3-38), just eight runs short of his century. Gareth Hughes also took three wickets.

No 3 Jonathon Oxer, who hit three sixes and four fours, made a top-score 40. Andrew Foley (14) was the only other batsman in double figures as Adwick were bowled out for Mark Leonard (3-43), Turner (3-29) and junior Thomas West (3-10) shared nine of the wickets to fall.

Hatfield Main beat Whiston Meths by 54 runs.

Main elected to bat after winning the toss and were all out for 133 in 33 overs.

No 3 David Lee (43) and No 4 Andrew Stuart (36) provided the bulk of the runs.

Lee capped a match-winning display by taking 4-4 in nine overs in Meths' reply of 79 all out.

An unbeaten 102 by Mick Roper, which included six sixes and nine fours, helped steer Sykehouse, who were 30-4 at one stage, to a four-wicket win over Pegler.

Pegler had earlier made 164-9, mainly due to the efforts of No 4 Paul Binns, who cracked nine fours in an unbeaten 74. Nick Gough grabbed 4-4-48.

The efforts of opener John King (57) and No 4 Mick Rogerson (57) – who hit 15 fours between them – failed to save Brodsworth Main (163) from a 46-run defeat at Scholes as Frank Dobson weighed in with 6-27.
