"It's turned out well for me" - Nathan Tyson on his loan spell at Chesterfield from Notts County

The Spireites were third bottom of the National League and five points from safety when John Sheridan was sacked and replaced by caretaker manager Pemberton early in January.

Before the season was halted the Blues had climbed to 19th and two points above the relegation zone and Tyson believes they would have avoided the drop.

“In my first game I could see what needed to be improved upon and, to be fair to Pembo, he’s nailed it down every training session,” the on loan Notts County striker told The Non-League Paper.

“When I first arrived it was a bit lacklustre, but now everyone is getting in each other’s faces and the tempo is better.

“The lads seemed to get a new lease of life and we are getting better and better. We were winning the vital games and I think we would have pushed out of trouble.

“It’s a shame the way things have gone. It would be nice to finish the season, but I can’t really see it happening.”

If Tyson, 37, does not play another game for the Spireites he will always be fondly remembered for his 23-minute hat-trick in the 4-0 win against Ebbsfleet United. It was the first time a Chesterfield substitute had ever scored a treble.

“It had been a while since I had scored,” he said. “It’s like waiting for a bus - you wait ages for one and then three come at once. It was a fantastic feeling.

“It shows what I’m capable of if I get opportunities, which I have been at Chesterfield. Three goals and two assists in five or six games isn’t a bad return. It’s turned out well for me.”

Tyson’s loan at Town finishes at the end of May and his contract expires at Meadow Lane the following month.

The former Nottingham Forest and Derby County forward is waiting to see what happens with his future but Pemberton has previously said he believes Tyson will become a free agent.

“My target is to play to the age of 40,” Tyson added. Twenty-two years as a professional would be a huge achievement.”
