"It always happens..." Rotherham United boss fuming at officials after defeat to Burnley
The Millers, two divisions below their opponents last season, were on course for a memorable win at Turf Moor as goals from Ben Wiles and Chieo Ogbene put them 2-1 up, despite being down to 10 men following a soft red card for Cohen Bramall.
However, despite there being no major injury, they had to contend with 10 minutes of added time at the end of the second time, having already played six minutes added time in the first half.
Manuel Benson cruelly equalised in the first minute of those 10 minutes but there was more heartbreak to come as Halil Dervisoglu poked home in the 101st minute of the game.
But it came after Burnley were awarded a throw-in in the build-up when the ball clearly came off their player last.
Taylor is quickly finding out what managing Rotherham at the second tier entails.
“It always happens to Rotherham when we go to a bigger club,” he said.
“They’ll play the maximum amount of time, like they did in the first half. We have that week in and week out.
“You need various things when you come to Burnley - you need a good performance, which we had, you need a little bit of luck which I’m not sure we had on the night, and you need the officials to make the right decisions, and we certainly didn’t get that.
“The throw-in which led to the third goal. You could see my players’ reaction, clearly. The fourth official saw it, the linesman was two yards away and didn’t see it. My player has gone to pick up the ball because it was our throw-in, and then he’s out of position for the third goal.
“People will think I’m moaning but they are huge, huge moments in the game.”
