An unnamed player sustained a suspected fracture of a bone in the dying moments of Saturday's 2-1 defeat to Norwich.

Boss Paul Warne does not want his identity revealed ahead of the visit to the City Ground, but he is fearing he will be without his man for four months.

The player will have a scan on Tuesday to determine the severity of the problem, but it does not look good and comes soon after flying winger Chiedozie Ogbene was ruled out for a similar amount of time.

“We have got a serious injury, I don't want to say who it is because it gives a helping hand to the opposition.

“We think one of the players might have a break from an incident in the last second of the game. If that is the case it could be three to four months.

“That is a blow because the 14 lads who played a part on Saturday were all very good so to lose any one of our players for four months on top of just losing Chieo for a similar period of time is a blow.

“I won't know definitively until Tuesday when he goes for a scan. I don't really want to assist the opposition by telling them who it is.”

The injury means that Warne will be forced into at least two changes for the Forest match as Angus MacDonald begins a three-match ban.

“I am missing a player and I am missing Angus, so there is at least two new faces on the pitch,” Warne added. “I might make another change, not forced.

“It's next man up, you're only as good as your squad and that includes your staff.”

Warne, who will miss the game again as he continues to self-isolate following one of his family getting coronavirus, could have Joe Mattock back.

The left-back missed the Norwich game as he was also self-isolating, but he returned to the training ground on Monday.

Warne, in exile at home in Tickhill, will base his decision on whether to throw Mattock straight back in after a Zoom call with his staff on Monday afternoon.
