Injury KO for Istvan

BARNSLEY boss Simon Davey fears striker Istvan Ferenczi could miss a fortnight's football.

The injured Hungarian centre-forward came off after only 15 minutes of Saturday's 1-1 draw with Cardiff at Oakwell.

He was hurt in a challenge with centre-back Glenn Loovens and was being assessed today.

Said Davey: "Stan doesn't shirk challenges and if he goes down hurt he is hurt. He couldn't continue, he's rocked his ankle. It's going to be a doubt for the next couple of weeks.

"We've lost a centre-forward so obviously Kim Chistensen comes into the reckoning."

Miguel Mostto took Ferenczi's place on Saturday alongside Kayode Odejayi.

Barnsley went behind to a Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink header in the second half. Brian Howard scored the equaliser with a diving header seven minutes before full-time.

It was his fifth goal of the season.

"I think a draw was a fair result," Howard said. "We gave it a go but they controlled a lot of the play. We'll take a point from that.

"We're on an unbeaten run at the moment and the longer that goes on the better for the club.

"You look at some of the players Cardiff have got and what they've achieved in the game and you can't wait to go out and test yourself."

Barnsley are eighth in the league and unbeaten in four. They face fourth-placed Bristol City tomorrow night at Oakwell.

Howard added: "We'll just keep going about our business quietly, we're confident we've brought in a lot of good players, we're competing very well at the moment.

"No-one has come here and really turned us over. We're knocking the ball around well so we feel we can give anyone a good game.

"We're not going to be stupid and say that we're going to win the league, we'll just keep ticking away, plugging away."

The Owls have doubts over Steve Watson, Michael Johnson, Francis Jeffers and Tommy Spurr as they prepare to face leaders Watford at Vicarage Road tomorrow

But manager Brian Laws is also counting the positives from the club's haul of six points from the last two matches, with the earning of a second clean sheet in a row, confidence in the squad soaring, and several players hitting form.

Watson (knee), Jeffers (groin) and Spurr (dead leg) had to go off during the 1-0 win at Carrow Road. Johnson (Achilles) took a heavy knock after the Owls had used all their subs and he managed to complete the game.

Reds make most of penalty blunder.
