Injury hit Spireites hope to tie up Jordan Slew deal today, Wilson eyeing other additions before Colchester

The former Sheffield United front man has been training with Danny Wilson’s men at the Proact, following his departure from Cambridge United.

His addition would certainly bolster an attack that may still be missing Sylvan Ebanks-Blake and Lee Novak, when Spireites travel to Colchester for a relegation battle tomorrow night.

Slew joined Cambridge in February last year after being released by Blackburn, who paid Sheffield United £1.1million for him in 2011.

Wilson wants other new faces to join the 23-year-old in the squad, sooner rather than later.

He said: “I would like to change it, we need a fresh spark in there.

“We’re hoping Jordan will do a short term contract between now and the end of the season.

“We’re hoping that will get done today, but we’re not 100 per cent.

“I’m hoping we can bring a couple in before the game, if not before the Saturday game.

“But again, it’s about availability.”

While the emergency loan window does give Wilson room to operate, he says the club’s tight financial restrictions are not the only stumbling block.

“This window is quite difficult to operate in,” he said.

“Obviously it’s all on loans and at this stage of the season who can afford to let players out.

“Some prefer to keep hold of everybody in case of injury problems.

“It’s a case of hitting the right time, so we’re keeping our fingers crossed.”

Attack is one area of concern for the Chesterfield boss, who was unhappy that his side went down to a defeat at Burton last Friday, ‘without laying a glove’ on the league leaders.
