Injury crisis will not stop Spireites

Chesterfield physio Jamie Hewitt is a busy man as Spireites prepare to host Bury tomorrow night (7.30pm).

In addition to Gareth Davies (toe), Jamie Ward (hamstring) and Nicky Travis (ankle), five more have joined the injured list.

Adam Smith, who had an operation on his knee last season, has again been having difficulty with the same injury.

He's set to see a specialist in a couple of days time, whilst Phil Picken and Jamie Winter both took ankle knocks in the cup loss against Hartlepool.

Peter Leven (groin) was unable to play the second half against Wycombe last Saturday. Non-contract man Georges Santos has also been struggling with a knock.

Add to that list the absence of Aaron Downes and Adam Rooney tomorrow as they represent Australia U23 and Republic of Ireland U21 respectively, and Lee Richardson's squad is beginning to look threadbare.

Leven is the most likely of the absentees to be ready for the contest, so it looks as though a couple of Dave Bentley's second year trainees could get a place on the bench.

Two of the youngsters, Ben Algar and Jake Williams, were in the squad against Hartlepool. Winger Algar got his first taste of first team action, putting in a shift of 35 minutes as sub for Jamie Jackson, who got a rare start on Tuesday but never really got into the game.

In addition to Algar earning a debut, so too did first year pro Josh Law, son of ex Spireites captain and manager Nicky and brother of Blades' Nicky.

Law came on as an early replacement for Picken and looked a decent prospect.
