Chesterfield caretaker manager John Pemberton said Nathan Tyson’s 23-minute hat-trick against Ebbsfleet United showed exactly why he wanted to bring him to the club.

Tyson, 37, joined Town on loan until the end of the season from Notts County last month.

Some Blues fans criticised the signing but Pemberton, who worked with the striker at Nottingham Forest, was always confident he would be a good addition.

Tyson became the first Chesterfield player to score a hat-trick when coming on as a substitute after bagging a second-half treble against Ebbsfleet.

"You can see why I have brought him in,” Pemberton said.

"I have known him for a long time and I have worked with him and I know what he is like as a professional.

"He is a family guy. He goes home and he looks after the kids and he does not go out.

"It is important we have that kind of quality and professionalism in the dressing room and you can why he is still playing at 37."

He added: “He has scored 125 goals now (in his career).

“The thing for me is when he gets on the shoulder and he is chasing centre-backs down it is game on.

"He is such a livewire he does not give you a minute.

"He showed his quality on his finish but his third goal - his hat-trick goal - they were never going to catch him were they?”

Tyson notched his first goal on the hour-mark after just three minutes of replacing Mike Fondop, before adding his second on 77 minutes and his third six minutes later.

"I did not think Mike (Fondop) was quite there today,” Pemberton added. “He looked a little bit leggy for whatever reason. We will look at what we have done with them all because we do work a lot of them individually.

"I just felt Tyson would make a difference to us. I could have made a sub after 20 minutes. I was certainly thinking about doing it half-time but I thought I would just give it five minutes and see how it pans out.”
