'˜If there's an error I've made it's not giving him an opportunity sooner'

The youngster, who was made available for a loan move just a couple of weeks ago, has apparently made the Chesterfield manager see the error of his ways.

He came off the bench for his first appearance of the season last Saturday at home to Barnet and then started on Monday at Hartlepool.

“If there’s an error I’ve made it’s not giving him an opportunity sooner,” Allen told the Derbyshire Times.

“And I have made errors there’s no doubt about that.

“I thought he played really well last week.

“He’s been bright in training.

“He looks like a good player and I want him now at his age, with his energy and his enthusiasm.”

Rowley, 19, broke into the first team during Gary Caldwell’s tenure and after overcoming a shoulder injury last season, was almost ever present until the final throes of the relegation battle.

Allen has been impressed with what he’s seen lately from the teenager, who he says is showing renewed self belief.

“Joe had a rest from the first team towards the end of last season, he’s had a long summer to think about his career.

“He’s stepped up in training, he’s not just been one of the group or on the periphery of the group in training, he’s actually taken more of a central role, as though he believes in himself more, that he can play in our first team.”

Allen plans to use the attacker in this weekend’s game at home to Leyton Orient and is looking further down the line to a potential partnership with another of his forward-thinking midfielders.

“He’ll definitely play tomorrow,” said Allen.

“I’m sure all the supporters will be looking forward to watching him play.

“I certainly am.

“To have him and Charlie Carter both in our team in a few weeks time, I’m hoping that’s going to be a success.”
