'I am intrigued to see what plans our potential new owners have', says our Chesterfield FC fan writer

Like most of us I am intrigued to find out what sort of a takeover of the club is going to take place, writes our fan columnist Roland Gent.

Is the aim going to merely be sustainability at this level or is the hope to potentially achieve promotion back to the Football League on a surer financial footing than the club currently finds itself?

The good news is that the on/off saga appears to be in its final chapter and hopefully things will end well.

I am just looking to return to days when Chesterfield were a well managed club.

It is thought that most sides above us in this division do not have the same sort of playing budget that we have had under Dave Allen.

Barrow seem ready to go back into the Football League with a lower budget than ours with four of our ex players who were discarded by various of our previous managers.

In other news, John Pemberton says he wants a smaller squad next season.

There is no point keeping such a big squad, especially if many of the playrs are of a similar standard to one another.

Fourteen players are out of contract at the end of the season. I would certainly hope Mike Fondop is re-signed, everyone agrees on that. Apart from our bustling striker, Pemberton has some serious decisons to make as soon as he gets a green light on the budget that may be in place next time round.

Most teams in the National League will start to experience a fixture pile-up after Storm Dennis ended most matches this weekend.

Ebbsfleet beat Chorley in a ‘six-pointer’, which just about condemns the Lancashire side to relegation and Notts County could not win at home to Woking which means their late charge to automatic promotion is stalling.

At our end of the division there is still some debate about relegation issues due to Bury having gone bust mid-season in League One.

There's still a chance that a knock-on effect will affect the National League, after all last year Aldershot were repreived due to Gateshead's inability to carry on.
