There was little surprise in Rotherham delivering their best performance of the season against the best team they have faced.

After back-to-back away defeats at Swansea and QPR, the latter of which was particularly disappointing, the Millers responded by drawing 2-2 with second-placed Bournemouth.

Boss Paul Warne described it as the most “complete” display of the season, which will please him on the back of two limp matches.

There was definitely a sense of inevitability about it as well, as raising their game against the best teams is something they have done whenever they are in the Championship.

Indeed, even Warne's teenage son saw it coming.

The boss said: “In the words of my son, he said to me today when I left, 'You'll be fine dad, you're always good against the best teams, you're just rubbish against the crap ones', which was a nice thing to say to me. He is sort of right.”

The Millers might have been fearing the worst when Junior Stanislas put the Cherries ahead from the spot in the 20th minute following a rash challenge by goalkeeper Jamal Blackman on Dominic Solanke.

But the response was good and Freddie Ladapo levelled before the break when he converted Joe Mattock's cross and then soon after the restart he produced a delightful chip to put his side in front.

Bournemouth hit back through Solanke's header just after the hour, but then had to rely on the brilliance of goalkeeper Asmir Begovic to earn them a point.

Begovic produced a gravity-defying save to keep out Angus MacDonald's spectacular overhead kick.

“It did look a good save,” Warne added on the Cherries’ goalkeeper. “I know Asmir really well, I played with him at Yeovil, since he has played with me his career has gone in the right direction, so he has got a lot to thank me for for that, shooting at him in training.

“It was a good saves. He made some good saves and performed really well.

“The fact we are making arguably the best team in the league's goalkeeper make saves is testament to my team.”

“I'm really pleased, it's the most complete 90 minutes we've had this season. My criticism of the team over the last couple of games is that we have had a good 45 minutes after a sluggish start.

“Fair play to the lads, they took the information on, they were desperate to put in a performance fitting of the club and that was definitely the case.”
