DENNIS Hobson may never have achieved his aim of becoming directly involved with Sheffield Wednesday, but his appointment to Scunthorpe’s board strengthens a link between the Owls and the Iron.

Ex-Wednesday managerial duo Brian Laws and Russ Wilcox are in charge at Glanford Park, where former Hillsborough star Akpo Sodje arrived this week after leaving Preston.

Former Owls winger Chris Sedgwick is on Scunthorpe’s books, though he is currently on loan at Hyde United; ex-Wednesday striker Leon Clarke, now with Coventry, had a pre-Christmas loan spell at Scunthorpe, and David Prutton, now back in the Owls squad, spent three months on loan at Glanford Park this season.

Boxing personality Hobson, an Owls fan, tried several times either to get on to the Wednesday board or help the club during the pre-Milan Mandaric years.

Hobson said he had been in talks with Scunthorpe for the last few weeks:

“I brokered the deal to bring Akpo Sodje to the club because he is a personal friend of mine and hopefully I can help bring more players in.”
