Kristian Dennis is all in favour of caretaker boss Ian Evatt's desire to bring attacking football to the season's finale.

Evatt has been vocal about his wish to entertain supporters after a tough season culminated in relegation.

Striker Dennis, who took the Goldenboot award at the Sheffield Star awards on Monday for outscoring his fellow professionals at the five South Yorkshire Football League clubs, has enjoyed Evatt’s stint in charge.

He benefitted directly on Tuesday night when Louis Dodds’ cross allowed him to head home his 21st goal of the season.

“He’s been great, a breath of fresh air,” said the frontman of the temporary gaffer.

“He just wants us to play football, attack, get people forward, get bodies in the box, get help up there with me.

“On Saturday against Wycombe it worked for most of the game but sloppy mistakes cost us.

“Hopefully we can do the same (at Barnet) but get the win.”

On Tuesday Dennis came agonisingly close to a landmark moment, something that has eluded him during his two seasons as a Spireite.

Having already found the net once, a rebound fell at his feet from Newport keeper Joe Day but Dennis was unable to make the most of the golden chance and bag what would have been his first ever brace for Town.

So he’s determined to tick off that achievement before the season is out.

“I wouldn’t mind a couple of goals,” he said.

“I’ve never scored two in a game for Chesterfield and that’s done my head in, so it’d be nice to get that before the season ends.”
