The Chesterfield midfielder lashed home a wonderful half volley to put the Spireites head in the second minute at the Proact.

But Nolan had already limped off with a hamstring problem before the final whistle signalled a 4-1 defeat to the Blades.

A visibly distraught Nolan spoke after the game and admitted the goal he scored was scant consolation.

“Before the game the gaffer said get into the box, get forward. My first chance I’ve scored but I’m just disappointed,” he said.

“I think the goal goes to the back of my mind after that, a local derby.

“First half I thought we were by far the better team but we just can’t seem to keep that consistency going for the full 90 minutes.

“We’ve got to find that consistency throughout a game. A good 45 minutes isn’t going to win us games.

“We can’t put our finger on it at the moment but it’s something we need to sort out.”

Nolan questioned whether or not his side could have maybe tried to stay on the attack after taking the early lead.

“I think it probably killed us scoring so early, we seemed to sit back a lot inviting pressure instead of going for the second goal,” he said.

“We’ll have to sort it on the training field this week before Fleetwood and hopefully get those three points we need so much.”

On a desperately disappointing afternoon one ray of light perhaps was that the 24-year-old was optimistic about his injury.

He added: “I just overstretched and felt my hammy a bit, but hopefully it won’t be too long, I don’t think it’s too bad.”
