Frustrated Danny Wilson says Chesterfield must start taking chances

Wilson was left to tue a series of missed opportunities as Chesterfield fell to a sixth straight League One defeat at Coventry on Tuesday night.

And Wilson knows the relegation-threatened must show a more ruthless side when they face Sheffield United in League One on 13th November.

“We created enough chances, but when you don’t take them this is what happens. That’s the crucial difference,” he said.

“Given those kind of chances in the next game, I’m convinced they would put at least a couple away.

“Of course it’s disappointing, but we’re not far away. We proved that again here, but the result goes against us again.

“We should have been home and hosed before they even had a sniff.”

The Spireites remain four points shy of the safety line in the table, and it’s also now 558 minutes since they last scored a league goal.

Prospects had looked encouraging for the Spireites at half-time.

They had created decent opportunities during a goalless first period, most notably from Ched Evans, Gboly Ariyibi and Kristian Dennis.

However, all their hard work eventually counted for nothing as Jordan Willis struck with 21 minutes to go, before sub Andy Rose made it 2-0 - a scoreline that did flatter the Sky Blues, who saw Lewis Page sent off deep into added time after being shown a second yellow card.

The Spireites turn their attention to the FA Cup on Saturday when they head to Colchester for a tricky-looking first-round tie.
