The 53-year-old is believed to have thrown his hat in the ring to replace the now departed Mark Smith.

Another name linked with the job is Garreth Barker, who until May was the academy manager at Rotherham United and has experience at Blackpool, Bolton, Wigan and Preston.

The Derbyshire Times understands there are also internal candidates hopeful of vying for the position, which was held by Smith for the past three years.
