Football: Sheffield ref gets Wembley honour

Have your say

There’ll be a part of Sheffield at Wembley even before Sheffield United get there.

Top Sheffield referee Craig Pawson has been chosen to referee the FA Trophy Final at the national stadium later this month.

Craig will take charge of the clash on March 23 between Cambridge United and surprise finalists Gosport Borough who are currently in the relegation places in Conference South.

Craig - whose father Paul is well known in Sheffield refereeing circles - was elected to the Premier League list last Summer but his first Premier League game was a year ago, Swansea v Newcastle.

He has been at Wembley before, reffing the League Two Play-off Final in 2012.
