Football: Sellars the key as Hallam go 10 games unbeaten

Hallam made if 10 games without defeat when completed a league double by beating Pontefract Collieries 2-0 at Sandygate Road.

Connor Sellars broke the deadlock on his return from injury cutting inside to score with a low shot from Adam Carter’s perfect through-ball.

Five minutes later the Countrymen increased the lead. Danny Deakin’s effort was parried by the keeper and when Sellars played the ball back into the middle, substitute Liam Morris was on hand to tap the ball home from close range minutes after coming off the bench.

Parkgate eased to a 4-0 win at Staveley MW. Adam Shepmade it 1-0 at the break before Steve McDonnell marked his debut with two goals inside the first 10 minutes of the second half. Craig Fletcher wrapped up the points nine minutes from time with his fourth goal in as many games

Staveley announced after the game that manager Billy Fox had resigned to concentrate on his business interests after four years in charge.

Maltby Main made it four without defeat beating Heanor Town 2-1 at Muglet Lane. Matt Plant headed the Miners into a 48th minute lead and two minutes later from another Houghton cross Brian Cusworth nodded in the second. Heanor pulled one back through Nico Degirolamo.

Armthorpe Welfare drew 3-3 at home against Tadcaster Albion to end a run of three defeats. Callum Ward gave the visitors a third minute lead but Welfare hit back through Leo Fortune-West and a Stuart Gibbard header to go in leading 2-1 at the break. Goals from Josh Barratt and Steve Jess saw Tadcaster go 3-2 up but Craig Morley’s close range effort on 67 minutes meant the spoils were shared.

Worksop Parramore won 2-1 at Retford United, Simon Barraclough and Lee Holmes putting themn 2-0 up by the 36th minute and although Reece Thompson pulled one back, Parramore’s held on for fifth win on the trot.

Division One leaders Athersley Recreation came from behind to thump Dinnington Town 7-1 after Matt Smith had headed the visitors into a fourth minute lead. Jason Bentley equalised with a penalty with Steven Bennett putting the hosts ahead four minutes later.

The floodgates opened after the break as Bentley netted three more along with efforts from Leigh Toone and Lee Briscoe.

Worsbrough Bridge Athletic slipped to a fourth game without a win losing 5-2 at promotion chasing Albion Sports, after Lee Garside from the penalty spot and Adam Podmore on 59 minutes had put the Briggers back in the game at 3-2.

Rossington Town lost 5-0 at Teveasal, while Askern Villa went down to a ninth defeat in 10 losing 5-1 at home against Eccleshill United. And Emley lost out 2-1 at home against Knaresborough Town despite Paul Sykes heading them into a 44th minute lead.
