Focused on the short term but excited by the long term '“ Caldwell on his future

The Scot, who took over in January, has endured a tough start to life with the Spireites.

On the pitch Caldwell has only led his team to one victory in nine outings.

And while that, and the club’s position in League One, is currently occupying his mind, off the pitch he has high hopes for the future.

He maintains he still sees his time at the Proact as a long term project, something he talked about on the day he was unveiled as Danny Wilson’s replacement.

“I think what excites me is that I have a football club that’s been willing in the short term and hopefully the long term, to let me build something, create something to bring success for the long term,” he said.

“I want to create assets within the club, bring people in, develop players, have a good coaching structure, good recruitment that gets the right type of player at the right age.

“That all takes time to put in place.”

Former Wigan boss Caldwell believes the club’s decision makers feel the same.

“Having spoken to the owner and Ashley (Carson, director), that is the plan moving forward.

“Obviously the short term is the most important thing in my mind, but having the long term plan is something that really excites me.”
