Fleming on the move

VETERAN defender Craig Fleming has left Millmoor - and goes with praise from manager Mark Robins.

The former Norwich City defender, 35, joined Rotherham United at the end of January and remained first choice to the end of the season.

However, Robins had decided that Fleming was not going to figure and, after talks, club and player mutually agreed to part.

"We spoke in the close season and he wasn't really part of my plans," said Robins.

"But I will say that Craig is a good example to all and someone who works hard and he has not been a minute's problem," added the Millers boss.

"Rather than mess him about, it was best that he moved on and looked to get a game elsewhere rather than playing in the reserves."

Fleming had been 10 years at Norwich and was extremely popular there, a former captain and was among the Canaries legends inducted into their Hall of Fame. He also had a Testimonial at Carrow Road.

He was brought in by former Millers boss Alan Knill to provide experience at the back and he played in the final three months of the season.

Fleming did not figure in the Pontins League Championship Play-off final at Millmoor last night in which Rotherham lost 2-0 to Nottingham Forest. His last game was a couple of weeks ago in the semi-final win over Oldham.

Rotherham lost striker Ryan Taylor after 20 minutes following a clash of heads and he needed eight stitches in a head gash.

But Forest proved too good and took a 55th minute lead through a header from Nathan Tyson, the 650,000 striker who was returning to action after damaging knee ligaments against the Millers in the League One clash at the City Ground on Easter Monday.

Rotherham battled away but struggled to make openings and on 68 minutes Forest's Felix Bastians ensured the win with a shot from 22 yards.

Striker Tom Cahill got his first appearance in a Rotherham shirt when going on after 63 minutes. The youngster, signed from Matlock, suffered a knee injury at the start of pre-season training.
