"Feeling much more positive" - proposed Chesterfield takeover appears to be back on track

The community trust’s deal to buy the club has been ongoing for several months and has been delayed by setbacks and then the coronavirus.

But progress has been made and both parties are positive it will go ahead and it is hoped that it could be complete by next month.

Spireites company secretary, Ashley Carson, told the DT: “After a couple of weeks of silence from the community trust, Mike Goodwin (chairman of the trust) has been back in regular contact with a lot more positive information. I have always taken Mike to be a totally honest and upfront person, so yes I am (feeling more optimistic).

“I am aware that they have received several knock backs recently and I now believe that they are feeling much more positive.”

When asked when it could be finalised, Mr Carson said: “We are now approaching the end of the financial year, so it would make sense to complete on July 1.”

Mr Carson also said the protracted takeover has “frustrated” Mr Allen but he still keen to complete the deal.

“It is fair to say that the delay after delay has frustrated Dave, as this has cost him more money and diluted any monies that he will receive as a result of the sale,” Mr Carson added.

“His financial contribution since January has been over £750,000, this would not have been the case if the February 14 date had been met.

“He is still committed to completing the sale as soon as possible.”
