Chesterfield's new right-back Paul McGinn

The Chesterfield defender, signed this summer from Dundee, says he has settled well and is soon to purchase a property in the area.

His first taste of life in English football has been friendly matches against the likes of Sheffield Wednesday and Derby County, which have also given fans their first glimpse of the Scot.

The 25-year-old said fans can get used to the maurauding forward runs he made in midweek against the Rams.

“The manager likes to play with attacking full-backs so that suits me down to the ground, that’s obviously why they’ve taken me in here,” he said.

“I also like to defend, I’m pleased with how I defended. The system works perfectly for me and Dan with the types of players we are, Dion (Donohue) likes to go forward too, so it’s good.”

McGinn is likely to spend most of his time linking up with winger Gboly Ariyibi and he’s pleased with how their understanding is developing.

“It’s great, and because he is so quick it means teams can’t switch off,” he said.

“If Gboly doesn’t go on one of his mazy runs it means I can overlap him, so they’ve got a lot of things to be wary of.

“We’re good at getting back as well, Gboly probably doesn’t get the credit he deserves for getting back in, it’s only been a few weeks but I know I enjoy playing with him in front of him.”

Chesterfield will be in action at Northern Premier League neighbours Buxton on Saturday, and host Leicester City Under 21s on Tuesday night at the Proact.
