Evatt enlists help of League Two's top boss and calls for Spireites to entertain fed-up fans

The centre-half, put in charge of the relegated side for the final three games of the season after Jack Lester’s departure, says it’s an honour to lead the club he’s made 265 appearances for.

And he’s been left entirely to his own devices by the powers that be, with no directives on who he can or can’t choose for the games against Wycombe, Newport and Barnet.

“It’s completely my choice, completely my decision,” he said.

“It’s a massive honour that they’ve given me the respect to take charge of the team for the rest of the season and I can use who I see fit.

“It’s amazing, when you step out of it you can see with a keen eye who wants to play and who doesn’t.

“I’ll be selecting the ones that want to play.”

Evatt has done his homework on tomorrow’s visitors, enlisting the help of one of League Two’s title-chasing managers.

“Obviously we know about Wycombe,” he said.

“I spoke to John Coleman on Tuesday, Accrington played them last weekend, and he’s given me some ideas of how to exploit them.

“To be fair they were the same ideas I’ve got myself.”

The temporary manager, who has so far refused to rule himself in or out of the race for the permanent position, hopes they can treat long-suffering Spireites to a positive performance tomorrow.

Town have scored just five goals in six games.

“I think it’s time the shackles come off and we try and attack, score goals and entertain.

“These fans haven’t been entertained for some time. Hopefully we can show some effort, desire, commitment and score some goals.”
