Strikers usually get all the glory and it is no different in our Team of the Week from Saturday’s matches.
Sheffield Wednesday’s Gary Madine - two goals against MK Dons - and the Blades’ Ched Evans - an equaliser at Scunthorpe - were straightforward enough choices as they were the clear match-winners or saviours for their respective clubs.
Another local team to win at the weekend was Chestefield. The Spireites picked up their first three points of the season at Bournemouth with all three of John Sheridan’s new signings scoring.
Craig Westcarr eventually got the nod to make it a front three alongside Madine and Evans because of the quality of his finish and the excellent pass he made for Leon Clarke’s goal.
So, who will be supporting the triple threat up front?
Owls goalkeeper Richard O’Donnell makes the team courtesy of a solid all-round match and a superb save to keep the score at 2-1 from the Dons’ Dean Bowditch.
Dale Tonge of the Millers had an impressive game at Don Valley against Dagenham & Redbridge to make the right-back spot.
Jonathan Grounds earns a spot at left-back for his display for Chesterfield at the Seward Stadium.
The Reds’ Stephen Foster was excellent up against Leicester new signing Jermaine Beckford at Oakwell, so he partners Doncaster Rovers’ George Friend at centre half.
Flanking the Blades’ Michael Doyle in midfield are two players who were instrumental in their team’s win.
Owls right-sided midfielder Liam Palmer had a hand in the first goal, set up the second and scored the third at Hillsborough. And the Millers Gareth Evans scored the first and created the third from his left-wing position.
