John Sheridan will be reunited with former Leeds United teammate Noel Blake when England Under-19s take on Germany at Chesterfield’s B2net Stadium tonight (7.30pm).
The England youngsters are coached by Blake who joined Sheridan at Elland Road in 1988 before Billy Bremner sold the current Spireites boss to Nottingham Forest in a deal worth £650,000.
Sheffield United’s Jordan Slew has been drafted into the squad as a replacement for Southampton’s Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.
Blake has nothing but praise for former Owls star and Republic of Ireland international Sheridan who has led Chesterfield to the summit of League Two.
“He’s always been a proper football man and knows how the game should be played,” said Blake said. “He was a great player in the middle of the park and we’ve kept in touch over the years. I’ve been to see Chesterfield a couple of times and the club is certainly reaping the benefits of his experience this season.”
It represents Chesterfield’s first ever international match and the game was a 10,000-plus sell-out a few weeks ago. England Under-19s had a successful 2010, reaching the semi-finals of the European Championship in Normandy.
