'Donny Dog' Andy earns place on Rovers board

DONCASTER Rovers director Andy Liney deserves to retain his seat on the Board despite stepping down as supporter-director.

In offering him a full seat on the Board, chairman John Ryan has rewarded him for six years of hard work and dedication to the Rovers' cause.

Andy worked tirelessly during that period, during which time his efforts were not always appreciated by all, to give the supporters he represented a Board-level voice.

He was also instrumental in the Viking Supporters' Co-operative raising around 150,000 for the club with sponsored runs wearing the Donny Dog costume, coin trails and bucket collections.

But he admitted this week that he had run out of fund-raising ideas and that he also needed to cut back on his involvement with the VSC, an organisation which now boasts nearly 700 members.

"I will continue to represent supporters at Board level," he said, "but due to the fact that I have resigned both positions on the VSC Board I won't have to keep my nose to the grindstone and have day-to-day responsi-bilities like I have had for the last six or seven years.

"I will have more time to pursue other objectives as a director and be able to go away for a break with my wife, who acted as unofficial VSC secretary for many years, during the season, if we so decide."

Andy will also be sharing his Donny Dog duties and plans to hand the costume he has made his own, over to another volunteer for a few weeks.
