Wellens set to face old team-mates

DONCASTER Rovers star Ritchie Wellens could line up against one of his former clubs in next month's Johnstone's Paint Trophy.

The holders were paired against League One rivals Oldham Athletic in the second round at home on Tuesday, October 9.

The midfielder spent two years at Boundary Park before rejecting a new contract and joining Rovers in the summer.

Rovers boss Sean O'Driscoll welcomed the home draw but then put the game to the back of his mind order to concentrate on Sunday's home league game against Crewe.

O'Driscoll was due to check up on the walking wounded today following Friday's 2-0 defeat at Nothampton,

"Mark McCammon was a bit stiff and sore after the game and Mark Wilson got caught with a late tackle," said O'Driscoll. "The referee didn't see it as a foul even though the game had stopped.

"James Coppinger you would think might a half chance of being in the squad if he comes through treatment and Jason Price might play a bit of the behind-closed-doors match tomorrow.

"We've got to focus on getting people fit, so the nine day break from last Friday to Sunday might give us one or two more options in the squad.

"We'll continue to do our work in training whether it's a three-day break or a nine-day break. I don't think it really matters."

Meanwhile, Bryan Robson's search for new signings resumes this week as the Sheffield United manager attempts to put the finishing touches to his squad before Saturday's Championship clash with Wolves.

Robson believes he is near to one of his most important acquisitions of the season after it emerged Richard Hawkins, West Brom's fitness guru, is the leading contender to replace Tony Daley.

Robson, who has been linked with moves for Tottenham's Wayne Routledge, Sunder-land's Graham Kavanagh and Kevin Kilbane of Wigan Athletic, relieved Daley of his duties.
