Walsall match sets Rovers back again

WELL, just when you thought you had turned the corner, football comes up and bites your bum.

Saturday's victory over Cheltenham saw us pick up three valuable points with Lewis Guy again putting in a match-winning performance. I find it difficult to report on the game as unfortunately I was press-ganged into going to a wedding (who gets married in the football season, I ask you?)

My lad kept me up to date with regular reports. At least the listeners to Trax FM would have had a quieter afternoon without my dulcet tones.

On Tuesday night against Walsall, a team who fare better on their travels than at home, it all started off well, Matty Mills heading in for the second successive match.

The Saddlers equalised with a disputed free kick from an official who was consistent – consistently awful.

Anyway Lewis toe-poked home and everything was looking rosier at half-time.

We should then have gone on and finished the job but we turned in what must be one of the worst second half performances (besides Plymouth) that we have witnessed for many a year.

If Walsall had bagged four or five we could not have complained.

Thankfully Sulli had his best game but blotted his copy book inexplicably kicking the oncoming Walsall forward to concede a match-winning penalty.

Even when we were given a lifeline, we gave the penalty kick to a player who had not got into the game. Taxi for Copps...

Then the ref shocked everyone by showing Lewis a red card for calling him a *********. How can you send him off for telling the truth when he had let off several players for dreadful tackles.

Luton now becomes a must-win game.

One downside from the Cheltenham game was some low-lifes breaking into our supporters' club coach, stealing several phones, football kit, coats and tickets.

If it were parked on the stadium car park then cctv would have been monitoring it.

Talking of the stadium losing nearly a million, it is a big loss but to be honest they have not been over customer-friendly since it opened and the customers are us the supporters. It really surprised me when nobody from the tenants –the Rovers, Lakers, athletic club and American football – was invited to work alongside the SMC.

Coaches to Luton depart Retford 9am, Harworth 9.05, Bawtry 9.15, Styrupp Rossington 9.15, Infirmary 9.30, Keepmoat car park 3 9.45.

Lots of places left but watch out for the roadworks on the M1 near Luton.
