VIDEO: Doncaster Rovers need to avoid complacency insists Dickov

‘Take nothing for granted’ has been Paul Dickov’s mantra of the week at Cantley Park.

Confidence in the camp has soared since Rovers began a season-best run of four games without defeat, one which has included three clean sheets.

While emphasising the importance of his side’s new-found defensive solidity, Dickov insists Rovers must work even harder to maintain it.

“The boys are a lot more confident going forward knowing the lads behind them have shut the door,” Dickov said.

“It gives us a fantastic base to go ahead and play.

“But the one thing we can’t do is get complacent with that.

“We can’t just expect them to keep clean sheets all the time.

“We’ve got to work hard as a team but knowing that we’ve got experience, confidence and a base to go and win games.”

Rovers’ desire for hard work is set to be tested in earnest tomorrow by a Brighton side always keen to pass the ball.

Dickov insists Rovers must be wise as to how they approach the game when the Seagulls have the ball if they are to avoid chasing shadows at the Amex.

He said: “If Brighton want to play the ball out from the back and pass in their little triangles, we’ve got to combat that by pressing when the time is right to press.

“If we press at the wrong times Brighton can cut right through us.

“Our discipline and when we press is going to be important and we’ve worked on that.

“The lads have been in early on certain days this week and shown clips of what we’ve been doing well and what we can do to improve.

“We know that we’re going to have to be better on Saturday because Brighton are an expansive team who play really good football and can easily hurt us if we’re not on it.

“We’ve got to make sure we are on the front foot, that we press in the right areas and have confidence that the lads at the back are shutting the door.

“We have to keep our standards really high if we’re going to keep getting good results.”
