Doncaster Rovers have issued a statement confirming the club is in takeover talks with “external parties”.
Former chairman John Ryan is understood to have teamed up with One Direction star Louis Tomlinson to mount a takeover bid.
In response, Rovers have now confirmed that they have been approached by external parties, talks are ongoing and the club are seeking a “swift resolution” to the process.
It is understood Ryan hopes to seal the takeover by July, allowing Paul Dickov time to shape his squad ahead of the new League One season which kicks off on August 9.
The club statement reads: “Following reports in the media, the owners of Doncaster Rovers can confirm that they have been approached and dialogue has taken place with external parties about a proposed takeover.
“At this stage the club is not in a position to comment further about the level and detail of those discussions but will do so as soon as it is legally possible.
“The owners are looking to ensure a swift resolution to the discussions to ensure that this does not impact adversely on the summer transfer activity.
“Any decision made by the current owners will focus on for what is best for Doncaster Rovers in both the short and long term.”
